![]() Please find below trombone notes: Trombone slide positions: 1st position- all the way in 2nd position-between 2. Below is a rough guide for where each position is on the trombone, be aware that each trombone is different and will need to use your ears to correctly put the slide in the correct place to play in tune. Therefore I do not recommend playing it using this position. The Note in black the 7 th harmonic and is very flat when played with the slide all the way in. Thats not going to be enoughwhen you open a valve on the trombone, all of the positions get larger: you can only fit 6 positions on the slide with the F valve down, and only five with both F and D. ![]() The Harmonic series of a trombone These notes below show the pitches that can be played by not moving the slide but just tightening up and loosing the lips. Im assuming that what you mean by position chart is just a letter name to position number reference. A high buzz will be created by tight lips and a fast stream of air pushed through them causing a high frequency of vibrations this will result in a produce a high note. If I had an instrument meant to be a compact bass with 2 triggers, I would not miss 7th. I had a horn with an Eb valve which required Bs and Es to be played (those are plural B and E, not the European meaning - flat) in 7th. Modern orchestral compositions call for all seven pedals, and on modern trombones with their wider bore these speak relatively well. This is done by tightening and loosening the tension of your lips, this will create a higher or lower sounding buzz. I use 7th as an alternate position if I have a lot of notes in 6th or 5th, and need an Ab, E, B or sometimes low C in b7. Between the pedal in the 1st position (Bb1) and the 2nd natural of the 7th position there is a gap which can only be filled with the help of a fourth-valve (F valve) or fifth-valve (Eb valve) as used on the tenor-bass trombone. To get all of the pitches, you need change the Harmonic series. Slide position chart (new system) most trombones are tenor trombones, like the valveless one in the middle. The trombone is the only brass instrument that doesn’t use valves to change the pitch within a harmonic series of notes.
